Future Spirit Nepal

We are a non-profit charity association that has long-standing experience in strengthening proactive initiatives in Nepal that contribute to improving the living standards in the mountainous regions of the country.

Our cooperation partners at Sahara Samuha Nepal are responsible for the development and implementation of new as well as already existing projects.

During this process, Sahara Samuha Nepal can count on our assistance as counsellors for all concerns. But above all, we provide the necessary financial means, without any deduction for administrative expenses: as a matter of principle, all donations are fully remitted.

Sahara Samuha Nepal is mainly operating in the mountainous region south of the Gaurishankar. Their proactive attitude reveals a new spirit of self-help which we have been discovering and learning to respect since 1978. Consequently, we have supported the efforts of the local people since then and still keep on getting excited about the conspicuous achievements, time and time again.

This is where the name of our association stems from: Future Spirit Nepal.

Our chairman Wilfrid Remy visited Nepal for the first time in 1978/79 where he met Sherpa Pasang from Simigaon in the Gaurishankar district. Over the years and on the occasion of many more visits to Nepal, their friendship and a very fruitful collaboration evolved.

In 1999, Wilfrid Remy provided legal advice to Nepra e.V., a Dortmund-based organisation engaged in leprosy relief in Nepal, and was then elected to the board of Nepra e.V.

In 2006, his mother, Dr. Gladys Remy, made over her estate to Nepra e.V. She was primarily interested in facilitating the establishment of a hospital ward in the remote mountainous regions south of the Gaurishankar, a project suggested by Sherpa Pasang.

Since the beginning of the friendship and collaboration with Sherpa Pasang, further projects in this region have been realised.

In 2014, finally, Future Spirit Nepal e.V (FSN) evolved from the former Nepra e.V. as it seemed reasonable to share tasks. In accordance with the wishes of Dr. Gladys Remy, FSN focusses on helping in the mountainous regions.

As per May 2015

Due to earthquakes and resulting landslides, access to the road to Tashinam and Simigaon has been cut off 40km outside Jagat.

Jagat in the valley of the Tama Kosi River is the place of departure for the ascent to Tashinam and Simigaon, with a difference in altitude of 1000m. It has been reported that in both places only one single house had remained undamaged. This might be attributed, amongst others, to the fact that the houses in this area are built using quarry stone without cement, because cement would in the first place have to be imported from Kathmandu via the only recently built road until Jagat (which is very expensive) – and then, the locals would have to carry it up to their villages.

The hospital ward in Simigaon has been destroyed, and it has so far remained unclear if and how it could be reconstructed at the same location.

The local nurse has continued to provide the people of Tashinam with medical care, as best she could in a tent. The situation is very difficult because in Nepal, the rainy season extends until mid-September.

For the reconstruction of the hospital ward in a „safer“ place in Tashinam, an estimated €15.000 will be needed.

Our association is in a position to bear the running costs of services at the hospital ward without difficulty. After the hospital ward and also the school in Tashinam have been completely destroyed, however, we heavily rely on donations. All the money we receive is fully remitted and donation receipts are issued.

Sahara Samuha Nepal is a Nepalese association which was founded in 2007 by Pasang Sherpa and others and whose members put their heart and soul into the realisation of social projects in the region, on their own initiative.
